Nativity Creche Family Keepsake Carvings

The Nativity scene, also referred to as a crèche or crib, contains the most wide reaching font of material for Christine Coffman to draw from in her quest to create heritage art that will be passed on through generations of families.

A Nativity scene can be as simple as Baby Jesus with sheep watching over him. If you add a shepherd or two you have a Nativity that reflects the lyrics of "While Shepherds Watch their Flocks". Put Angels around the manger and it can represent "Hark the
Herald Angels Sing". Let Joseph and Mary sleep nearby and "Silent Night" is represented in the Crèche scene. A little boy playing his drum demonstrates "Little Drummer Boy". "We Three Kings" calls for the Three Wise men to be added, but are they bowing humbly or are their arms raised in praise?

Special orders in the past several years have included Joseph holding a Lily to show purity, another used two Mary figures, one still with child for the days leading up to Christmas and a separate Mary to put out Christmas morning along with Baby Jesus.
Many clients like the idea of showing Joseph holding Baby Jesus. Children gathered around the Baby Jesus can represent children in a client's own family.

Peripheral figures add dimension to the scene. In the village of Bethlehem there must have been butchers and bakers and candlestick makers. People of all ages to represent the client's family members can be added. The ideas are endless and each single idea has boundless variations that can be created to make sure that your Nativity is truly an original creation, a Keepsake carving to become part of your families Christmas tradition.
